98215 - Smart Cities Civil Infrastructures

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Moduli: Andrea Simone (Modulo 1) Cristiana Bragalli (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Corso: Minor "Smart Infrastructures"

Learning outcomes

At the end of this module, the student will have the methodological, theoretical and empirical skills for planning, design, simulation and performance evaluation of digitally-empowered civil networks infrastructures, with special emphasis on innovation in people mobility, goods transportation and hydraulic networks, in a context of smart and climate neutral cities.

Course contents

Mod.1 – Smart Infrastructures for Urban Mobility – 3 CFU

Prof. Andrea Simone

Mission: to provide a comprehensive education and training on urban mobility systems and infrastructures in order to be ready for the next years challenges

Outcomes: The lessons will deal with 5 macro-categories in each will be showed both the new technologies applied and the models commonly used:

1- Cooperative, Connected and Autonomous Mobility - autonomous driving; connected infrastructures that can properly interact with CAVs in real urban areas

2- Innovative contracts and sharing systems;

3- Urban Mobility, MaaS (Mobility as a Service) platforms;

4- smart-cities and smart-infrastructures

5- active users (e.g. pedestrians, cyclists, ...); persons with disabilities.

Mod. 2 – Smart Infrastructures for Water networks – 3 CFU

Prof.Cristiana Bragalli

Urban water systems framework - Architecture and components of water systems. Objectives and constraints in the design and management for hydraulic operation and to ensure water quality. Resilience Concept of resilience.

Plants management - Objectives and constraints in plants management. Architecture of the remote control system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). Basic and advanced functions of a SCADA system.

Supply networks management - Tasks of supply networks. Objectives and constraints in the management of supply networks. Instruments for hydraulic and water quality monitoring. Control of the hydraulic devices.

Distribution networks management – Tasks of distribution networks. Objectives and constraints in managing distribution networks. Water demand management and remote reading of customers meters (smart meters). Integrated approaches to the pre-localization of water losses.
