Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge to acquire skills in the field of hydraulic and wind energy conversion systems.

The energy conversion technologies discussed in the course will be analyzed within the context of the current National, European and global energy scenario.

Course contents

Classification of hydraulic turbomachines;

Hydraulic turbines

General theory;

Classification of hydroelectric plants;

The theory of hydraulic similarity;

Hydraulic turbines (Pelton, Francis, Kaplan, Elica, etc.);

Sizing of a hydraulic turbine;

Mini hydroelectric.

Conversion systems from the sea, waves and tides

Wind systems

Bets limit;

Anemological study of a site;

Aerodynamic analysis;

Vertical axis wind turbines

Pumping systems for the electrical storage.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 6 credits in a single module. The course consists on theory lectures with also some lectures in which numerical examples and real applications will be presented.

Assessment methods

The examination at the end of the course aims to assess the achievement of learning objectives, verifying the knowledge that the students have acquired about the coure topics.

The final grade is defined by a single oral exam, testing the student's knowledge in all topics covered in the 6 CFU.
