Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student:
- knows the different teaching and learning strategies and the languages of science teaching;
- knows the characteristics of the formal, non-formal and informal training system and is able to compare them by building forms of integration and collaboration between them;
- will know how to design and manage complex learning environments also using technologies;
- will be able to compare and choose technologies appropriate to the contexts and interlocutors with whom she/he works;
- will be able to find the most appropriate methods and tools to improve and deepen her/his professional and cultural skills also by participating in learning communities and communities of practice.

Course contents

The course aims to deepen strategies and tools related to science teaching for effective communication in different contexts and areas of learning, information and dissemination.

Aspects related to the strategies for teaching science will be presented through different tools and languages, proposed in an integrated way and oriented towards the innovation of scientific training settings. In particular, the use of technologies will be studied in depth, intended as a teaching mediation tool, communication tool, digital environment (the so-called third space, the bridge between formal, non-formal and informal learning, between outside and inside the school). The topics covered, therefore, include those of laboratory teaching, learning by doing and ESL (episodes of situated learning), BYOD (bring your own device), the use of social media in teaching and scientific communication. Finally, particular attention will be given to the creation of a community of learning and practice that goes beyond the duration of the course itself, an environment of learning and experimentation in which sharing, communicating, informing, getting involved, asking questions and finding solutions (together) .
