90623 - Environmental Emergencies and Recovery of Cultural Heritage (1) (LM)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Visual Arts (cod. 9071)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the students will acquire a full awareness of the complexity of the cultural heritage and what are the responses formulated by the institutions to the production of disasters. Through a historical approach to the natural emergency we will then focus on what policies have been adopted by governments and administrations to tackle the complex problem of the vulnerability of cultural heritage. Taking advantage of the analysis of specific case studies, declined in terms of political history and history of the environment, students will be provided with the skills necessary to understand in what terms the public interest has changed in the conservation and enhancement of past assets in the territory .

Course contents

The first part of the course will be devoted to the analysis, from a historical-political point of view, of the intervention of the State on the defense of cultural and environmental heritage (conceptualizations, regulatory tools and the role of institutions from the post-unitary period to the republican era). In the second part of the course the students will instead be involved in the study of some cases of public intervention for the restoration and conservation of the cultural heritage involved in environmental emergencies.
