01016 - Town-Planning Technique (A)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 0881)

Also valid for Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 0881)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has the basic knowledge related to the analysis and design of interventions for the transformation of urban spaces and the evaluation of effects and specific problems of their implementation. In particular the student is able to - correctly measure, elaborate and represent an urban transformation project with reference to the urban planning regulations and tools in force and to the practices, methods and languages of the urban planning discipline.

Course contents

The module/teaching is an integral part of the Urban Planning Laboratory.
Within the Laboratory, the module will develop theoretical topics to support the design exercise, referring to emerging issues in the contemporary urban planning debate on urban regeneration.
In particular, the programme will address the following themes: the project of territorial and green networks; the project and policies for sustainable and cycling mobility; the regeneration of urban public space: placemaking, experimentation and temporary uses; the healthy city project: green areas, playgrounds and sports facilities; participation in urban regeneration practices: neighbourhood workshops, urban innovation; representation in urban planning.
The lessons will take place in the classroom and on-line, in a joint way between the two workshops. The lectures are the theoretical support to the practical laboratory activity; interventions of international researchers, teachers and professionals are expected in open lesson/seminar mode.
The course includes an in-depth examination by the students on a project theme, analyzed through the critical analysis of an urban project on the project themes developed in the Laboratory.

Teaching methods

The module is divided into face-to-face and on-line lectures, open lectures with researchers, teachers and professionals who will discuss significant topics for the laboratory and seminars to verify the work done by the students, conducted in association with the professors of the laboratory.

Assessment methods

The unit is an intrinsic part of the Town Planning Lab, with which it shares the verification of learning of the concepts covered during the semester, including through seminars and public discussion with the class.

Exercise

Participating students will individually develop the analysis of a case study on A3 boards throughout the course, on a design theme chosen according to its relevance to the design elements and themes they intend to explore. This exercise will be deepened, updated and revised throughout the semester and presented during the final exam.

Oral Examination

1) The exercise, revised during the year and returned through A3 boards, is preparatory to accessing the exam. The elaboration is necessary for the acquisition of the techniques of reading and interpretation of urban and territorial contexts for the accomplishment of the Laboratory of Town-planning. The evaluation assigned (with score from 0 to 5) concurs to shape the final evaluation.

The evaluation of the exercise will be assigned taking into consideration the assigned exercise and the discussion on the theoretical texts and the topics covered in class. Each criterion reported will be assigned 0 to 1 point.

Criteria:

- autonomy in choosing the topic of investigation

- completeness of descriptive information

- presence of bibliographic sources

- argumentative capacity of the critical analysis and of the transferable elements in the project

- graphic coherence

2) The final oral exam will deal with the contents of the course and the bibliographic references included in the official list that will be provided at the beginning of the course and uploaded on the online platform. The exam will take place in an integrated manner with the Town-planning Laboratory and will include the verification of the theoretical topics covered in class, argued on the basis of the project presented. During the final exam it will be required the delivery of the A3 exercise produced during the module, and the discussion of their contents in reference to the theoretical topics covered.
