LEARNING OUTCOMES

XIII-XIX ITALIAN LITERATURE. The aim of the course is to follow the development of the Italian Literature from the 13th to the 19th centuries, through some literary text, both poetical and in prose, of different periods; these texts will be studied within their historical and literary context, will be read and analyzed with students. The course will offer a method of text analysis which may be used by students also with other literary texts in order to reconstruct their historical and literary period.

ITALIAN LITERATURE: READING AND COMMENTING ON TEXTS FROM 200 TO 800.

MODULE A (15 lessons) After an introduction to the literary text and an illustration of the "Italianist's tools of the trade": 1. presentation of the course and digital tools; 2. philology; 3. rhetoric; 4. metrics, texts relating to the following movements and authors will be read and commented on: 5. Origini e lo Stilnovo; 6. Boccaccio; 9. Humanism; 10. Boiardo and Pulci; 11. Petrarchism; 12. Ariosto; 13. Machiavelli; 14. The last meeting of the module will be dedicated to the preparation of the written test.

MODULE B (15 lessons) After an introduction to academic writing: 1. paraphrasing, 2. commentary, 3. argumentative writing, 4. bibliography, texts relating to the following movements and authors will be read and commented upon: 5. Goldoni, 8. Parini, 9. Alfieri, 10. Foscolo, 11. Manzoni, 12. Leopardi, 13. Nievo, 14. Carducci, 15. Verga.

Assessment methods

MODULE A: ITALIAN LITERATURE From the Origins to the XVIth century.

The examination for MODULE A consists of a written examination on EOL; students must show knowledge of the course content and the ability to paraphrase and comment on a literary text from the textbook relating to the period from the origins to the 16th century. During the course there will be a specific training for the exam and a facsimile of the written exam will be made available in the course materials on the VIRTUAL platform.

MODULE B

The examination of MODULE B consists of a test - which can be written or oral, at the student's choice - with open-ended questions; the students must show that they 1. know the contents of the manual Profile of Italian Literature; 2. paraphrase and comment on a literary text among those in the manual relating to the chronological period 600-800. During the course a specific training in academic writing will be carried out, and a facsimile of the written examination paper will be made available in the course materials on the VIRTUAL platform.
