Learning outcomes

Aim:

1) To provide basic knowledge on the design of organizational structures and corporate processes;

2) To characterize organizational functions in terms of tasks and decisional processes;

3) To help understanding corporate strategies and managerial decisions.

Course contents

The class will be structured into two macro-parts:

Part 1: Corporate strategy and managerial decisions

Value chain, value system and activity-based system;

Definition of value and its determinants;

Resources and competences;

Firm strategy;

Marketing;

Operations;

The supply side;

Financing decisions.

Part 2: Organization, planning and control

Criteria and models for organizational design;

Relationships between organization, technology and strategy;

Evolution of organizational forms;

Networks and corporate relationships;

Budgeting and control systems.

Teaching methods

The class hours are characterized by lecture hours and some seminars given by managers and entrepreneurs. In addition, on regular basis, some business cases will be discussed.

Assessment methods

Written and oral examinations will be held at the end of course. The written examination encompasses one case and some multiple choices covering the entire program.

Exam dates will be fixed according to the faculty calendar and they will be communicated to students through the Almaesami service (www.almaesami.unibo.it ). Registration for participating to the written exam can be finalized exclusively through Almaesami.
