Learning outcomes

By the end of this class students will have acquired a range of skills related to the technical and organizational aspects of filmmaking and production; will be able to integrate practical skills with historical, critical and theoretical knowledge of film culture.

 

 

Course contents

BOLOGNA NOIR: FROM REPERTORY TO FILM PRODUCTION

Period: November-December 2021

Description: This lab is aimed to gather audiovisual material to be edited with already existing interviews with the most representative authors of Bolognese crime fiction. Realized in the frame of the DETECt project, these interviews have been included in an innovative app that will allow its users to discover Bologna and its cultural history through the places represented in crime fictions, films and TV series. The lab has a dual objective: 1) to complete this material with additional pictures and video shooting to achieve a better illustration of the places in the narratives; 2) to rework all this material through different editing techniques, so as to create a short documentary on the fortunes of the crime genre in Bologna. 

Four phases are envisaged:

1) Preliminary phase: Illustration of the DETECt app; Re-vision of the repertory; Introduction to photographic, shooting and editing techniques

2) Pre-production: students are divided into groups to discuss the material and its possible uses. Each group then proposes a possible solution for the editing of the material.

3) Production: students are divided into two groups. One is assigned to shooting tasks, the other to setting up the database, researching other material online (including usable soundtracks) and assembling the video draft.

4) Post-production: once all the material is gathered and organized, the editing phase can finally start.

Timetable: November 8 -29, Monday 17-17; Thursday 15-19: shooting days. December 9: 15-19. December 13: 15-17. December 16, 17, 20, 21, 22: 10-14 (gruppo A), 14-19 (gruppo B). Final date: December 23, 15-17.

Readings/Bibliography

The Photofilm lab does not require studying on books, but a number of different audiovisual and textual learning materials will be made available on Virtuale.unibo.it

Laboratory activity does not give a grade but merely a “Idoneo”/“Pass”, expressed on the basis of participation in the activities envisaged.

In order to be considered an attending student, an attendance of at least 80% of the lessons/activities is required.
