Learning outcomes

After the course the student has the knowledge of the most important computational tools in civil engineering, with particular reference to numerical methods for the solution of algebraic and differential systems.

Course contents

Introduce students to common numerical problems that arise in the sciences and the fundamental computational techniques for solving such problems.
Typical topics include the characteristics of floating-point arithmetic, error analysis, approximation of roots of equations, interpolation and approximation, numerical differentiation and integration,
solution of large linear and nonlinear systems, Singular Value Decomposition.
