Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to produce different kinds of texts, paying specific attention to their formal and structural aspects, their communicative efficacy and critical basis. Students are expected to produce executive summaries of research reports, reviews, and essays addressed to scientific journals.

Course contents

The course introduces students to key writing techniques and styles, showing how to plan and write an academic text (with title, abstract, key words, introduction, paragraphs, conclusions, bibliography).

Teaching methods

Lectures and classwork. Students are required to attend at least 70% of the whole course.

Assessment methods

Knowledge of the basic principles of academic writing are assessed through written texts and a final paper.
