84199 - Advanced Transport Phenomena in Polymers and Composites M

Academic Year 2019/2020

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Chemical and Process Engineering (cod. 8896)

Learning outcomes

Students will gain knowledge of techniques for characterization and representation of rheological, thermal and mass transport properties in polymeric and composite materials. They will also develop skills to understand the role of these properties in analysis and design problems for transformation processes of corresponding materials, as well as for application of films and coatings for protective, thermal insulation or selective mass barrier purposes.

Course contents

- Fundamentals in thermodynamics of materials, fluid/solid mechanics and transport phenomena;

- Constitutive equations for linear and non linear elastic solids;

- Constitutive equations for linear and non linear viscuos fluids;

- Constitutive equations for linear and non linear viscoelastic materials;

- Elements of rheometry;

- Thermodynamics of polymer solutions;

- Mass transport in polymeric materials: fundamentals and applications;

- Heat and mass transport in composite materials.
