Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has the knowledge and ability to understand the mode of action of rehabilitation following the principles of Occupational Therapy. He knows and understands the abilities and limitations of the main systems of measurement of autonomy. He knows how to plan and implement interventions of recovery of autonomy allowed by the residual potential in major disability. It has the ability to apply knowledge and understanding about the types, classification, use and application of assistive technology for the self-care and self-protection, for the care of the home, mobility, sports and freetime, for communication and for environmental control. He knows the type, use and application of orthoses of rest, correction, static and dynamic and functional and traditional and modular prosthesis.

Course contents

- Definition of TO, historical and theoretical principles

- The figure of the occupational therapist: professional profile

- Comparison between the professional profiles of the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist

- Evaluation of the person: concepts of function, autonomy, independence, empowerment

- Scale of assessment of activities of daily living (FIM - Barthel - COPM)

- Definition of aids, orthotics and prosthetics. Role of products / technologies in the environment as facilitators according to the classification ICF

- Classification ISO 9999-2011, Tariff Nomenclature (DM 332/99) and 1599/2011 DGR

- tariff nomenclature (DM 332/99): performance prosthetic assistance, aids payable by the SSN, entitled, amenability to homogeneity of the function, mode of delivery, stages of the supply process

- Role of the physiotherapist to inform, guide and advise the person in the choice of the aid and customization, training and involvement caregivers

- Knowledge of the Italian portal on the assessment of aids (SIVA-Milan), consultation with the various sections (databases, ideas, documents, experiences, library)

- Injuries and pressure surfaces decubitus

- The transfer and lifting aids

- Aids and orthoses for the journey

- Home automation, architectural barriers, home adaptations, legislation in support of disability (CAAD network, CRA, CAT, L. Reg. 29/97, L. 13 / '89, DM 236 / '89, Presidential Decree 503 / '96)

- Static and dynamic orthosis for the upper limb and lower limb

Assessment methods

Presentation of elaborate (power point) of adaptation of the home to make it accessible and usable to a person with disabilities, also with assistive devices  proposed for autonomy.
