28138 - Technical Theories of Drama Composition (LM)

Academic Year 2019/2020

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will:

- acquire a historical, theoretical and technical knowledge on the compositional dynamics of the text and the dramatic spectacle;

- know how to critically analyse the different forms of writing for the scene;

- identify the performance potentials of extra-scenic textual materials;

- recognize the interactions between the spectacular level, the literary level and the social context. Making composition exercises corresponding to the main scenic and textual elements, students will develop skills in the dramaturgical application of the previously studied principles.

Society, writing, performance in the composition from the early 20th century to today, and in media interaction.

This course will provide students with an in-depth knowledge and practical applications on various compositional dynamics from the advent of the director to today.

More specifically, it will deal with the synergies between author and ensemble, Stanislavskij's texts on direction, Brecht's “stage writing”, new epic dramaturgy, avant-garde composing and the theatrical experience of Pier Paolo Pasolini with special reference to the intergenerational relations within its tragedies. For each topic, they will be analysed dramatic texts, "scenic writing" documents and visual documentation. This course includes a review of the main trends of the Sixties and Seventies through the controversial, theoretical and dramatic writings of Pier Paolo Pasolini. The second module will be dedicated to a workshop accompanied by technical notions on the decomposition and editing of the sounds, aiming to apply the notions acquired and the production of multimedia dramaturgy by the attending students.
