Learning outcomes

The course offers to student basic elements of Medieval Holy Architecture (some important monasteries and churches on pilgrimage’s roads) through sculptural decoration, historical and archaeological studies. And knowledge of ancient reliquaries and other liturgical and devotional objects (chalices, patens, crosses…) who reached medieval churches.

Course contents

The course’s pourpose is to offer a basic knowledge of Medieval Churches and Monasteries and the most important Pilgrimages in Emilia- Romagna through architectural and artistic studies and new archaeological and artistic researchs. Course examines also origin and development of worship of the most important relics of Christianity, their ancient reliquaries and other precious liturgical ornaments.

Lessons, seminars (to be defined) and study visits of Monuments, Museums and Exhibitions.

Assessment methods

Final text consists in oral examination in order to analyze the knowledge of course’s subject. It will be verified also the critical and methdological attitudes. For the attendants it could be valued additional works about a part of the program choosen together with the professor. It will be assessed the oral exposition and the capacity of treating themes and problems with critical spirit and an appropriate language. A knowledge by heart and a language not too specific will have a sufficient note otherwise the lack of competence will have a negative one. The inscription is possible only by Almaesami webpage.
