Learning outcomes

At the end of the teaching course, the student:
    1. knows the basic concepts of the freudian model and of the post-freudian models
    2. knows the fundamental models and orientations of psychoanalytical theory and is able to compare them
    3. gains competences on the psychodynamic models of development and on the developmental psychopathology
    4. is able to understand and analyze the influence of child experiences on the development of personality and of relational styles

Course contents

The course will take place during the first semester (September-December 2019) at the Cesena Campus of Psychology (address: piazza A. Moro, 90, Cesena). The course is for students attending the second year of the first Cycle Degree in Psychological Sciences.

The main contents of the course will be:

a) The Freudian System: basic concepts and main theoretical contributions

b) Basic concepts of Jung model

c) The Postfreudian orientations and the Ego psychology (A. Freud)

d) Object relations theory (Klein)

e) Infant psychoanalysis and Infant observation

f) The Bionian model (Bion)

g) The Developmental paradigm (Winnicott)

h) Self Psychology (Kohut)

i) The attachment theory (Bowlby, Ainsworth, Main)

l) Infant Research (Stern)

m) Theory of psychodynamic clinical work

The books to study are 4.

 3 manuals that include all the main topics of the program, and 1 book further deepening specific issues:

Teaching methods

The course, from the didactic point of view, will be characterised by:

-  frontal lessons about the psychodynamic models from Freud to up-to-date theoretical contributions;

-  practical activities, by reading scientific articles, watching video and discussing clinical cases;

-  deepening of some topics with invited experts;

-   (optional) working groups for the study of specific authors (e.g. Bion, Kohut, Bowlby), based on the reading of authors' writings; the groups will be decided at the beginning of the course. 

Assessment methods

The final exam is a written test (evaluation is in 30) based on the 4 books; the duration is 3 hours. The exam aims to evaluate the following learning outcomes:

a) to know the main psychodynamic models on mind functioning;

b) to know main competences on models on the development of the mind and of developmental psychopathology;

c) to understand the influence of early experiences on the development of personality and of relational styles.

The written exam includes 3 sections:

- the first section includes 10 questions with multiple answers: the score is 0 for no or wrong answer and 1 for right answer;

- the second and the third sections are composed, each, by 3 open questions, with possible score from 0 to 4. 

The exam is passed if, for every part, the minimum score is 6. The final vote is obtained by the sum of the 3 scores. 

In case of a very well described and complete exam, the final evaluation may reach 30 e lode.

In order to do the exam, it is mandatory the subscription on the specific online program, respecting the deadline. If the deadline is not respected, the student has to get in contact with the didactical secretary. The Professor will decide if accepting the student or not to the exam.

There are not any itinere exams.
