Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student is able to:

  1. create and manage data files
  2. manage the most common Office applications (web browser, word processor, spreadsheet, etc..) for purposes of research, statistic analysis and documentation.
  3. manage an experiment with Psychopy and statistically analyze the results

Course contents

The course aims to introduce students to the understanding of some issues of current importance related to IT and to provide students with basic knowledge necessary for the use of a modern personal computer equipped with the most popular applications, such as word processor e spreadsheet. Then the course deal with the basics of mental chronometry with practical examples of programming using the program PyschoPy.

Fundamental part of the course are exercises during which the student, with the help of the teacher, can experience the different teaching activities presented during the course. The knowledge to be acquired should enable the student to understand clearly what happens when you use certain tools (software).

■Theoretical elements of chronometry
■Introduction to PsychoPy
■Set up an chronometry experiment in PsychoPy
■Exercises in class.
Fundamental requirement to follow the lectures and practicals and participate to the final exam is the activation e-mail to university (for information and assistance, please consult the Staff of Informatics of the Faculty of Psychology)

Teaching methods

The course will be held with  lectures conducted in computer laboratory. During the lessons will be encouraged requests for clarification of the issues presented.

Assessment methods

The exam is done in computer lab. Is to answer 10 multiple choice questions about mental chronometry and programming with Python and an elaborate in Ms Excel on a paper track provided by the teacher.
The examination is done to the computer. The two test of exam held on the same day. Each review will be part of its assessment. The examination will allow to reach a 6 credits competence.
