Learning outcomes

the student has acquired the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and clinical criteria in the field of  community dentistry, defined as "the science and art of preventing dental disease, promote oral health and improve the quality of life". Specific learning objectives: 1) to acquire the knowledge of oral disease prevention, 2) acquire knowledge in the field of public health, 3) acquire knowledge in the field of methodology of health services organization, 4) acquire the knowledge in epidemiology, 5) identify and formulate priorities, based on the principles and practice of community, in planning interventions aimed at reducing oral diseases in the population.

Course contents

  1. The pillars of dental prevention in children and adolescents: nutrition, oral hygiene, topical and systemic fluoride, regular visits, pit and fissures sealants.
  2. Caries in deciduous teeth: epidemiology, etiology, prevention guidelines.
  3. Dental injuries of traumatic origin of the deciduous dentition: epidemiology, prevention guidelines.
  4. Caries in permanent teeth: epidemiology, etiology, prevention guidelines.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of lectures and practical classes.

Lectures, based on the principles of medical teaching, require a close interaction between teacher and students.

Assessment methods

The final exam will be carried out through a written with a clinical case and an oral test to assess the students' knowledge of the course program.
