This “crash course” is held this year at GIOCA for the third time.
It was a new proposal that GIOCA has started in a kind of “experimental” way in October 2016.
As it was quite well welcomed by students, we had the feeling that it was rather useful, and therefore we have decided to keep it.
It is mostly (though not solely) targeted to those GIOCA students (first year) who are not exactly familiar with the great variety of expressions in live performing arts: music, theatre and dance in their various and very different “genres” and contaminations, etc.
But we are confident as well that also those GIOCA students who already have a certain acquaintance with live performances of music, theatre, dance, etc. will be made curious to know more about artists, composers, actors, playwrights, dancers, singers, coreographers, directors, concert performers, conductors, ensembles, orchestras, bands, companies they have never heard of, or about someone they only know by the name…
This “Introduction” is also designed for those who – so far – have not been often attending to live theatre, dance and music performances, nor experiencing live performing arts on a regular basis.
The goal of this “crash course” is the one of giving a rough, maybe at times superficial and limited, though extended account of some among the thousands possible forms and expressions in live performing arts.
We have chosen a considerably large variety of audio, and mostly video recordings excerpts and examples, mostly rather short ones.
We have decided to pull together examples of rather contrasting expressions: straight theatre, academic theatre and avant-garde theatre (in different languages), classical ballet, modern and contemporary dance, opera, operetta, musical comedy, rock music in different forms, circus arts, symphonic and chamber music, jazz, blues and other “folklore” musical forms, and so forth…
My effort is to throw in most of all this stuff in the choice of excerpts that you will look at or listen to…
I look forward to meeting you from October 15th, 2018, onwards, and I hope that you will be able to take the maximum possible advantage of this “Introduction”.
As you know from other sources, the lessons of this “crash course” will take place on October 15th, 17th, 19, 22nd and 24th, always between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.
As the time is extremely limited, I strongly recommend very strict punctuality.
One-to-one oral exams will take place on Wednesday, October 24th, between 4.00pm and 7.00pm, in alphabetical order. In any case, please stand-by for possible schedule changes, keeping an eye on the sources of official Unibo information about this matter.
