- Learning outcomes
- The objective of the new interdepartmental Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences and Technologies is to train the next generation of leaders in industrial, clinical, and academic research. Our goal is to develop an organic research programme at the interface between engineering and medicine, which is inspired by the quantitative and integrative approach of physical sciences, and by the latest development in biomedical research, drive the development and clinical translation of disruptive health technologies. The doctoral training programme will prepare students in conducting research which:-how human physiology and pathology work in term of physical and chemical mechanisms, and how these mechanisms respond when perturbed, changes in life style, and environmental factors;-develop new technologies that by leveraging on this mechanistic understanding pursue a wide spectrum of applications relevant to human health, including prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Activities to be carried out by Doctoral candidates
- The PhD students will have an intense cohort activity, that will be entirely self-managed by the students themselves. The main element will be a seminars programme, where all students are expected to attend, and where each student is expected to present an update to their research at least once per year, where their work can be discussed and critically revised with all the other students of the programme, and with the supervisors attending. The seminars will also be used to rehearse conference presentations of particular importance.
Another cohort activity will be the participation to the Doctoral Development Programme. This is a cycle of seminars specifically tailored for researchers in training, that provide hands-on training on relevant research skills such as bibliographic research, fundamental statistics, scientific writing, scientific presentation. - Research training activities compliant with the Doctoral programme's learning outcomes
- -Lectures
-Frequency of seminars by national and international experts
-Frequency of laboratories
-Participation in national and international conferences with attendance of specialized courses of study
-Preparation and exhibition of scientific presentations at national and international conferences
-Critical review of scientific articles published in international journals. - Internationalization features
- Periods abroad will be organized, optionally, for a minimum of three months, to conduct and / or complete research projects. Foreign teachers will conduct seminars and classes as part of the educational doctorate. Tutors will stimulate and support the involment of the students to calls for national and international programs, for the allocation of research funds by planning international research programs in collaboration with other groups abroad. The PhD training activities can be found on the websites and will be disseminated at international scientific meetings in order to promote the participation of foreign graduate students.
- Expected research results and products
- As resalts of PhD programme we expect the achievement of original resalts in terms of relevance and imprtance. The expected tools will be scientific publications, patents design and realization of innovative applications and software systems in the domain of health science and technology.
