  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Fashion Cultures and Techniques (cod. 8772)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires the hystorical-methodological tools to understand the world of fashion from the second half of Century Nineteenth up to now; he/she will employ the theorethical-methodological instruments of the hystory of art on fashion phenomena; he/she will be able to explain the designers' collections both in an hystorical and in a business perspective.

Course contents

The course involves a chronological embrace that starts from the poetics of the early Twentieth Century, in contrast to the heavy stule of Chatles Frederick Worth, "the king of crinoline", promoted by the solutions of Paul Poiret, Mariano Fortuny and then Coco Chanel. The attention will later be focused on the second part of the Twentieth Century, with the initial ignition witnessed by the refusal of Balenciaga's and Dior's lessons: it is against the double line of these two pillars of contemporary fashion that the new front of Pop Fashion gathers in force, capable of spreading the street fashion, by now officialized by the creations of Mary Quant, Pierre Cardin and Fiorucci. The analysis will later investigate the Poor Fashion of the Japanese designers, will probe then the "rappel à l'ordre", up to the various "newisms" of the Nineties (Newpop, Newminimalism, New Poor fashion), to finally study the most experimental talents of nowadays, with further investigations dedicated to Angelo Marani and Boris Bidjan Saberi.
