Learning outcomes

Basic concepts of classical mechanics and thermodinamics, with applications and exercises. Hits will be given to the limits of classical theory.

Course contents

Requirements/Prior knowledge. Basic concepts of trigonometry, analitical geometry and analysis are required in order to be able to attend with profit this course.

Contents. The nature of scientific knowledge. Measurements and errors. Frames of reference. Vectors. Cinematics: velocity and acceleration. Constant acceleration motion. Circular motion. Dynamics and Newton's laws. Inertia law. F=ma. Action-reaction law. Forces. Work and energy. Energy conservation. Momentum and angular momentum. Center of mass. Gravitation. Keplero's laws and their derivation. Special relativity. Light speed invariance. Time dilation and lenght contraction. Rigid bodies and their motion. Thermodinamic: temperature; first and second principle. Kinetic theory of gases.
