Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will know health and safety discipline at work. He will be able to understand in an autonomous way prevention standards at the workplace and apply them to the cases with proper terminology.

Course contents

The course has a monographic content and allows students to acquire the essential knowledge in the field of Health and Safety and well-being at workplace, particularly with regard to the prevention perspective and integrated management of risks.

 

Lessons program covers the following topics:

General lines of the health and safety regulatory system of protection: 1.European legislation and harmonization principle in the field of health and safety at work. 2. European Framework Directive of 1989 and the sectoral directives 3. The legal principle of "maximum security technologically possible." 4. Characteristics and evolution of the Italian legal system relating to the protection of health and safety at the workplace

 

The Italian discipline: 1. D. lgs. n. 81/2008 and subsequent amendments . 2 . Scope, actors,  organizational structures of prevention. 4 . Participation of workers and trade union representatives. 5 . Safety in flexible labour relationship . 6 . Security in outsourcing processes (contracts and self-employment) . 7 . The inspection activities in the field of safety at work.

 

Health and Safety at work in a gender-sensitive perspective: 1. Impact of gender differences in occupational risks; 2. Causes (work organization; gender neutral legislation); 3. Rules and practices to integrate gender perspective in prevention strategies.

 

Prevention and precaution : 1. The European principle of precaution. 2. The risks from "unknown technology". 3. The asbestos risk: questions of civil and criminal liability. Analysis of case law concerning liability for workers' exposure to asbestos.

 

 

Readings/Bibliography

Considering the constant evolution of health and safety legislation, it is recommended the direct consultation of d. lgs. n. 81/2008.

Teaching methods

To facilitate the study for the final examination, the teacher provides for attending students the course material.

Assessment methods

The final exam will be oral.

For attending students is planned a middle written test, which allows program exemptions for the final exam. This intermediate test takes place at the end of the course.

For the intermediate test shall be required to attend classes and supplementary activities during the course.

The frequency is verified periodically by the teacher.

Classes are held in the first half-year and therefore the attending students can take the exam starting from the month of January.

Students can take the exam only after having passed “Law of markets and employment relationships”
