Learning outcomes

The course aims at increasing the student's proficiency in spoken Chinese by enhancing his or her ability to actively participate in conversation in communicative situations requiring an intermediate level of language proficiency.

Course contents

The course is intended for those who have already taken first-level Chinese (6 CFUs), or similar  (30/40 hour course.)

In this course, skills for beginning reading, writing, and comprehension of simple everyday texts with basic communicative functions will be reinforced.

Specifically, the student will learn to recognize about 150 characters in simplified Chinese (简体字) and to write 50 of them with confidence. The main radicals (部首) will be recognized, including in their non-simplified forms (繁体字).

Orally, students will practice listening and writing pinyin.

Textually, authentic texts will be studied, and students will practice filling out forms and writing short emails and online messaging.

Readings/Bibliography

Reading material will be handed in class. The text for introducing glossary and linguistic functions will be "Parla e scrivi in cinese", Zanichelli, 2016, as for the first level.

Teaching methods

Lessons will be in class. Students are invited to participate.

Assessment methods

Assessments tests will be held regularely in class, and a spoken exam at the end of the classes.
