Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to express and understand issues related to the social and political sciences, and to international policy, in spoken French, at a minimum level of A2, and an ideal level of at least B1, according to the Council of Europe Framework. As for written language, students must be able to read and understand complex texts, in particular reviews and books, at a minimum level of B1 level and, ideally, at the B2 level.

Course contents

The course aims to offer students a methodology of access to the understanding of Francophone news articles and their critical analysis with the aim of analyzing the issues of diversity and inclusion in the media today. To do this we will analyze international and intercultural communication in the French-speaking press (French, Quebec, Senegalese, Belgian, Lebanese...).

Among the objectives: knowing how to recognize the role of the representation of the other in the discourse of society through two types of discourse. Written speech (first module) and oral speech (second module). For the analysis of the written will analyze the discord of the international press as a form of mediation between the enunciator and the co-enunciator, the reader.

Teaching methods

The course is intended to be interactive. After a first part of the presentation of the methodology, students are invited to practice in the classroom also in view of the exam that will have the same form of exercises held in the classroom with the teacher.

Written test on a text never seen in class, but with the same characteristics of the texts on which the student has practiced throughout the course.
