Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires advanced knowledge on the role of design in fashion, in particular in the relationship between fashion design and product design. It also acquires the ability to identify the creative avant-gardes in fashion design, with the aim of developing the ability to recognize emerging creativity. The student develops the ability to apply their research to design and production processes related to the field of display, packaging and exhibition design for fashion.

Teaching methods

The course will be held mainly online on Microsoft Teams, but there will be some live lessons in Rimini. More details will be provided before the course starts.

Project review meetings are also scheduled, in which students will present their ideas for the exam and discuss them with the professor.

Assessment methods

Attending students

Presentation of an original essay (the detailed brief will be communicated during the lessons).

Discussion of the lesson slides (available for download at the end of the course) and 1 book from the bibliography.

 

Non-attending students

Presentation of an original essay focused on one of the following themes:

  • Fashion and packaging: an international brand and its work on packaging (shopping bags, boxes, perfumes, cosmetics, etc.).
  • Fashion and visual merchandising: an international brand and visual merchandising (showcases, displays, shops, etc.).
  • Fashion and industrial design: analysis of the creative relationships between fashion and industrial designers (collaborations, clothes, shops, objects, home collections, etc.).
  • Showing fashion: a brand and its last 3 years of staging fashion shows and presentations.
  • Beyond the fashion show: alternative methods for the presentation of fashion collections.
  • Exhibiting fashion: detailed analysis of a fashion exhibition (only if visited in person).

Each research must respect the following characteristics:

  • The theme must necessarily be agreed with the teacher (via e-mail or meeting) at least 1 month before the exa.
  • The index and the structure of the research must be approved by the teacher (via e-mail or meeting).
  • Length: minimum 4000, maximum 5000 words.
  • Illustrated research with 20-30 good quality images.
  • The cover, index and bibliography must necessarily be present.
  • The text should contain citations of at least 3 books from the bibliography.
  • The text must demonstrate knowledge of at least 3 books from the bibliography.
  • The essay must necessarily be in PDF format and the size must not exceed 10 MB.
  • The delivery of the elaborate will be done via e-mail, using only the official Unibo email address.
  • The essay must be sent at least 7 days before the date chosen for the exam.
  • The essay and 3 books from the bibliography will be discussed during the exam session.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • "Attending students" are students who will attend the lessons and will take the exam in the session immediately following the course.
  • The topic of the final essay must always and in any case agreed with the teacher.

Teaching tools

All slides shown during the lessons (including video and other content) will be shared with the students.

It is highly recommended to take notes during the lessons.
