Learning outcomes
Students are expected to be already familiar with the Japanese language and culture at least at the level N5 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). At the end of the course, they will acquire the linguistic and communicative competence of the Japanese language at the level of N4 of the JLPT (more or less equivalent to the B1 of the CEFR) and know how to utilize digital resources for understanding authentic Japanese texts, conducting translations or preparing presentations.
Course contents
This course is 30 hour-long. Besides studying and analyzing elementary and intermediate Japanese grammar, vocabulary and phraseology, emphasis will be given to the development of basic communication skills through pair and small group work sessions.
In addition to the classes held by Dr. Zappa (2 per week), mentoring sessions (1 per week, tutor: Eugenia Diegoli) will be available for clarifications and further exercise.
Students will sit weekly tests on vocabulary and kanji on Moodle.

Teaching methods
Traditional and interactive methods.
Students are advised to attend on-campus classes.
Assessment methods
Marking will be based on the results of written and spoken tests.
The delivery of projects and extra assignments on Moodle, and participation to mentoring sessions will be considered in the final mark.
Evaluation scale
30-30L: excellent. Required vocabulary, grammar, writing and written and oral communication have been well acquired.
27-29: above average with minor mistakes. Required skills and knowledge have been however clearly acquired.
24-26: fair. Clear errors show that skills and knowledge have been only partially acquired.
21-23: passed with clear limitations to skills and knowledge acquisition.
18-20: passed. Only the most basic requisites have been met.
<18: failed. Basic knowledge and skills have not been properly acquired. The exam is to be sit again.
Teaching tools
Classes will be available for live streaming through Microsoft Teams via Virtual.
Teaching materials and communications will be shared with the students through Moodle (Lingua giapponese - corso avanzato, no password).
