87973 - SUPERSYMMETRY IN PARTICLES, STRINGS AND FIELDS

Academic Year 2020/2021

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Physics (cod. 9245)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will learn the basic elements of supersymmetry. In particular he/she will acquire the tools necessary to understand its applications to relativistic particles, relativistic strings and four dimensional supersymmetric field theories.

Course contents

1) Physical motivation for supersymmetry

2) Supersymmetry algebra and representations

3) Superfields and superspace

4) Four dimensional supersymmetric Lagrangians

5) Supersymmetry breaking

6) The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

7) Basics of supergravity

8) Kaluza-Klein theories and extra-dimensions

9) Basics of string theory and string compactifications
