87253 - Computer Aided Design of Mechanical Structures m

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Docente: Francesco Cesari
  • Credits: 6
  • SSD: ING-IND/15
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Mechanical Engineering (cod. 5724)

Learning outcomes

The course aims to illustrate the main analytical and numerical methods for the calculation of structures, particularly suitable for the use of the computer. The student will be able to develop calculation programs based on different numerical methods, to understand the mathematical foundations of the most common commercial software and to use them for the structural analysis of mechanical components. At the end of the main reminder of continuum mechanics and numerical calculus, the student will be able to deepen the main simulation techniques based on the method of displacements, on the method of finite elements, on the method of finite differences. The student will then acquire the following skills: - Ability to set up a finite element calculation of mechanical structures. - Ability to perform advanced finite element analysis of mechanical structures. - Knowledge of the structure of a finite element calculation code.

Teaching methods

Distance lessons. The pdf of the lessons is provided to the students in advance.

Assessment methods

Students are invited to form groups of 2-3 people. During the lessons, exercises with questions are submitted to verify the learning status of the subject. The exercises carried out with a calculation program are then collected in a notebook to be presented for the exam.

Teaching tools

Students are provided with ad hoc calculation programs by the teacher.
