Course contents

The Italian as second language course will have a semester duration and will be held with the same program in both semesters of the academic year to allow foreign students arriving with exchange projects to attend the course. Students with exchange projects, which last more than one semester and who wish to attend both courses of Italian as second Language , are invited to contact the teacher to plan an individual work plan (including a portfolio) .

The course will be organized as follows:

· Two weekly meetings held by Dr. Greta Zanoni;

· A weekly meeting with Dr. Nadia Pagani (Lettorato)

The course is communicative as it aims to develop mainly oral skills, without neglecting written comprehension. In this course grammatical topics are functional to the communication activities. During the course various general topics will be addressed, to broaden the necessary vocabulary and develop the skills of interaction. Some of the themes may concern: society, environment, travel in Italy, current events, food and wine and culture.

Teaching methods

Lessons Dr. Zanoni:

- comprehension of oral excerpts taken from television and radio recordings, television fiction, films, web recordings

- reading and comprehension of written texts

- group / pair oral interactions

- short oral presentations

Assessment methods

The exam includes a written and an oral test, on which information will be provided in clas.

1. Written test (text comprehension and written production) is carried out during the last week of the course (consult the Moodle platform);

2. Oral exam: debate in pairs on a previously given topic.

Students must have passed the written test in order to access the oral exam. For the written test, the use of the dictionary is not allowed.

Students with exchange projects which last more than one semester, and who wish to attend both Italian as second Language courses (first and second semester), are invited to contact the teacher to establish an individual work plan (including a portfolio). Even students enrolled in the three-year degree course in Intercultural Linguistic Mediation who wish to attend the first and second semester are invited to contact the teacher at the beginning of the semester to establish an individual work plan and the preparation of a portfolio to be delivered before written test.
