Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student knows how to manage complex sampling plans. She/he will be able to plan complex surveys and to analyze data with advanced statistical tools, to assess and communicate the uncertainty on the obtained estimates.
Course contents
First module (the program is valid for the course 84609 - METODI DI CAMPIONAMENTO - 6 cfu)
The context of sampling in finite populations. Population and sample. Sampling design and the random variables managing the selection.
Inference in complex units of any size. The role of the intraclass cluster coefficient. Inference in complex units selected with varying probabilities. Ratio and regression correction in sampling of complex units. Approximated properties of ratio and regression estimators expressed in term of residuals.
Small area estimation
The predictive form of estimates in finite populations and superpopulation models.
Sampling in stages. (Students attending the 5 credits module have a shorter theoretical part)
