Learning outcomes

The student - knows the basic features (terms, concepts and methods) needed for the study of the structure, functions and textual organization of the Chinese language - knows the basic techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts - is able to understand, analyze and coherently produce complex written texts (but also oral speeches) belonging to various specialized text types and genres, particularly multimedia ones

Course contents

During the first part, students will be asked to read and analyze multimedia materials such as newspaper articles and social network extracts, dealing with current social issues, in order to improve their familiarity on complex syntactic structures. In the second section, the course will focus on writing ability starting from correction and revision exercises; in a further step, students will need to develop their own papers, based on topics and writing technique assimilated during the course.

Teaching methods

The materials selected aim to draw students attention to the chinese current events and complex syntactic structures of chinese language. Through careful analyze of the above mentioned texts, difficulties related to writing skills will be highlighted.

Duration of the course (COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE 70%): 40 hours in traditional lecture mode + 40 practising hours with native chinese teacher (20 hours in I° semester, which will be preparatory to the remaining 20 in the II° semester

Assessment methods

The assessment consists in two tests and the final vote will be the average of both.

- writing test: students will need to complete a writing task, topic to be defined with the teacher.

- oral test: students will need to introduce and discuss on their writing project.

Teaching tools

The chinese dictionary Xiandai hanyu cidian is highly recommended during the lessons.
