Learning outcomes

The course allows to acquire the basic knowledge about the cognitive system functioning . In particular, it will explore the cognitive mechanisms involved in attention, perception, memory and thought, action, recognition of objects and faces, problem solving and decision making.

Course contents

Knowledge on how individuals acquire, store and retrieve information, learn new knowledge, solve problems and make decisions will be provided. In particular we will examine the sensory processing, the perceptual experience, the role of attention in the identification of the environmental stimuli. We will analyze the mechanisms of learning and memory and the processes used to develop the concepts and the categories and the ways in which knowledge is represented and organized. Finally, we will address the issues of emotion and explanatory models.
