Course contents

Historical part: The situation in Europe at the end of the second world war; the new international order; Altiero Spinelli, Ernesto Rossi and the eropean federalism; the Rebuilding and the Marshall Plan; the first Community experiments: Oece - Ceca – Ced - Cee, Euratom; the international relationships and the economic boom; the Community expansions; the eutopean Treaties; the eropean Constitution the Treaty of Lisbon; the crisis; the Brexit and the present-day problems.

Institutional part: the european governance: introduction of the Institutions, the European Parliament; the Commission; il Consiglio dei Ministri (the Italian Cabinet); the Court of Justice; the Bce, the Bei and the monetary policies; the economic and social Comitee; the Comitee of the Regions; the Court auditing public finances; the european Mediator; the Guarantor and other offices and agencies.

M. Maggiorani, Unire l’Europa. Storia, società e istituzioni dell’Unione europea dalle premesse a oggi, Clueb, 2012.

The student has to choose a book from the bibliography given at the beginning of the course, in order to supplement the study of the main textbook.

Assessment methods

The examinatio can be taken in two differt ways. The student can choose between:

- ORAL EXAM. It is required to study two textbooks: a) M. Maggiorani, Unire l’Europa. Storia, società e istituzioni dell’Unione europea dalle premesse a oggi, Clueb, 2012; b) choose a book from the bibliography given at the beginning of the course.

- Essay writing (ONLY for the students who took part in at least 70% of the lessons). Fields of research will be illustrated at the beginning of the course. The student is required to investigate about one of this topic and explain it in front of the class at the end of the course.

Teaching tools

Graphics, Tables and Videos will be used during the lessons.
