Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will have a basic knowledge of the Ethiopian culture, as well as of the fundamentals of the Ethiopian languages. The student will be able to discuss the subjects examined during the classes and contextualize them with reference to the assigned texts.
Course contents
The first part (30 hours) will be devoted to a general analysis of the languages of the Horn of Africa and the problems related to their classification and provides a basic knowledge of the Amharic language (Ethiopia), mainly alphetization and conversation skills. During the course, we will also discuss the main aspects of Ethiopian political, social and cultural history. This will give the students a general understanding of the history and cultures of the country.

Assessment methods
An oral exam, during which the student will be evaluated according to the linguistic abilities he/she has acquired during the course. The students not attending the course will be evaluated through an oral exam covering all the assigned texts. To obtain the maximum evaluation, you will have to show that you are familiar with the main events of the history of Ethiopia. And that you have reached a basic knowledge of the Amharic language.
For the Integrated Course, the final grade is the average of the two votes obtained in the two modules (1A and 1B).
