69687 - Research Project A

Academic Year 2018/2019

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Chemical and Process Engineering (cod. 8896)

Learning outcomes

Training on use of specific tools for the development of research activity in prosess and materials engineering.

Course contents

Skills required to undertake the activity with success:

The activity consists in a research work in the field of chemical engineering. In general, basic knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, transport phenomena and unit operations is required. Knowledge of specific topics may be required by the tutor assigned and should be discussed with him/her before beginning the activity.

Course contents:

Research project A is a research work on a topic chosen by the student, supervised by a university tutor. The tutor is chosen by the student, or, if needed, assigned by the Director of Studies. Any type of suitable activity is acceptable: literature analysis, experimental work in a laboratory, theoretical work, modeling and simulation. The activity may be carried out in a university department, in external research institutes, in companies, in Italy or abroad. The activity can be independent or part of that required to prepare the graduation thesis. The activity can be carried out in the first or second year.

To start the activity, the student needs to submit a proposal including title, abstract and name of tutor at university of Bologna, using the downloadable forms and following the Research Project A instructions.

Assessment methods

To obtain the credits, a total of 150 hours need to be dedicated to the activity that must be described in a written report. The report should be delivered to the responsible of the activity together with a letter of the tutor stating his/her approval of the report and that the candidate has actually dedicated 150 hours to the activity. The report needs to be written on the avalaible forms.

Pass grade will be awarded to student showing in their report to have understood the topic addressed, to have sufficient knowledge of the theoretical fundamentals of the topic addressed and that were able to discuss the topic in the report with the appropriate use of technical language.
