Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of epidemiological studies to enable them to interpret and understand scientific literature

Course contents

Introduction to epidemiology. Ways of measuring the frequency of health events (raw, specific and standardized rates). Measures of  occurrence: incidence and prevalence. Measures of mortality. Principal methods of  epidemiological investigation: observational studies (ecological, on migrants, transversal, case-control, cohort) and interventional studies (clinical trials, field trials). Measures of association: attributable risk, relative risk, Odds Ratio. Factors leading to confusion and bias in epidemiological studies. Diagnostic and screening tests

Assessment methods

The final exam consists of an oral interview aimed at verifying the achievement of the didactic objectives, that is to say the level of knowledge of the tools and methods used in Epidemiological methodology.

To take the final exam students must register using the Alma Esami, respecting the specified deadlines
