Learning outcomes

The students will learn innovative aspects of pharmacotherapy of metabolic deseases and of aging. Comparison among traditional therapies and new and antiaging therapies will be performed as well critical analysis of these aspects. Knowledge of the analysis of metabolic deseases as obesity and bulimia, and analysis of therapeutic treatments and palliative ones will complete this course.

Course contents

An integrated approch to management of dyslipidemias, diabetes and hypertension. Drugs used in the treatment of metabolic diseases: Wilson's disease, Gaucher's disease, carnitine's deficiency, porphyrias.

Pharmacotherapy of nutritional diseases: drigs used for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, treatment of obesity. Antiaging drugs: hormonal therapies, electrolytes, minerals and vitamins. Critical revision of “antiaging” therapies. Palliative strategies for dementias, for macula degeneration and for cataract.

The exam consists in a written test of 12 open questions on the following topics: An integrated approch to management of dyslipidemias, diabetes and hypertension. Drugs used in the treatment of metabolic diseases: Wilson's disease, Gaucher's disease, carnitine's deficiency, porphyrias. Pharmacotherapy of nutritional diseases: drigs used for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, treatment of obesity. Antiaging drugs: hormonal therapies, electrolytes, minerals and vitamins. Critical revision of “antiaging” therapies. Palliative strategies for dementias, for macula degeneration and for cataract. The minimal score to pass the exam is 18/30.

For students who attend the course, they can participate to one partial test that will be held in the first half of June. The topics  are: An integrated approch to management of dyslipidemias, diabetes and hypertension. Drugs used in the treatment of metabolic diseases: Wilson's disease, Gaucher's disease, carnitine's deficiency, porphyrias. Pharmacotherapy of nutritional diseases: drigs used for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, treatment of obesity. Antiaging drugs: hormonal therapies, electrolytes, minerals and vitamins. Critical revision of “antiaging” therapies. Palliative strategies for dementias, for macula degeneration and for cataract. The test will be passed if the student has reached a minimum score of 18/30. The score obtained in the test can be recognized as final exam, if specifically requested by the student,  as indicated above. The score of the partial test is valid if it will be registered within the end of the academic year attended during the course.
