Learning outcomes

At the end of the cours of lessons, the students will be able to know the most important authors of Italian Literature, in relation to their poetics and to their historical-cultural framework.

Course contents

"THE WOMEN OF DANTE". EROS, POLITICS AND WISDOM FROM THE "RIME" TO THE "COMMEDIA"

The course considers Dante's texts which, from the "Rime" to the "Commedia", represent figures of women, considered at the intersection of desire, political life and philosophical speculation. In this perspective, Dante's whole intellectual biography is reconsidered.

The course is divided into two parts:

1. Dante's biography from Florence to Ravenna.

2. "The present things". From the "Rime" to the "Commedia"

ATTENDING STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE FOR THE FIRST PART, IN ADDITION TO THE EDITION OF THE "RIME" AND THE MONOGRAPHY OF SANTAGATA, ONLY THREE ESSAYS FROM THE BIBLIOGRAPHY. NON ATTENDING STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED INSTEAD TO TAKE THE ENTIRE PROGRAM TO THE (ORAL) EXAM.

Teaching methods

Lectures should be a sort of dialogue between the teacher and his students.

Assessment methods

The test consists of an oral exam on the topics covered in class and on the texts in the exam program (with the distinctions mentioned for attending and non-attending students). There are no written tests or term papers.

Books and, above all, the curiosity of the students.
