Learning outcomes

The student masters the methodologies for the study of linear electrical circuits in steady state and sinusoidal regime and in transient phase. Acquires the basic knowledge of transport, conversion and safe use of electrical energy.

Course contents

Circuit Theory: Kirchhoff's Laws. Circuit Elements and their characteristics, resistor, capacitor, inductor, dependent and independent voltage and current sources, ideal transformer, ideal operational amplifier. Graph of a circuit, tree and co-tree, sets of fundamental cuts and fundamental loops. DC regime. Circuit Analysis Methods. Main theorems on linear network. Transient analysis. AC regime: AC circuit analysis methods, AC power. Three-Phase Systems. Real transformer: main characteristics, losses, equivalent circuits. Safety basic concepts. Laplace transform and network functions.

Teaching methods

During the lessons the arguments shown in the program of the course are developed. The course contains class exercises.

Assessment methods

There are six sessions during the academic year: two in January / February, three in June / July and one in September. The date, time and place of the written tests are indicated on the Almaesami site (https://almaesami.unibo.it/almaesami/welcome.htm). Registration is compulsory. The lists on Almaesami open about a month before and close two days before the beginning of each session.

Each written test lasts 60 minutes and is in take-home mode: students are assigned a task to be carried out independently, in particular the production of an in-depth written paper on a topic relevant (or similar) to the program. The maximum length of the paper is 4 (four) sides. The choice of the topic is at the student's discretion (relevance will be evaluated in the final grade); the application examples (with relative calculation) will be particularly appreciated. It is advisable to consult books, articles and / or websites that must necessarily be mentioned. It is possible to insert graphics and images (indicating their origin). The paper can be written by hand or with a computer (preferable). In any case, name, surname, matriculation, degree course and PAGE NUMBER must be present on each sheet. The test begins by registering on the list on AlmaEsami. To deliver the proof, it is necessary to send me, on the day and time set for the exam, via e-mail 4 photos (1 per side) or the pdf file of the document (provided it is of reasonable size). MAKE SURE THE FILES ARE READABLE. If you send a pdf (preferable), name it SurnameNameData.pdf; otherwise, if you send the photos, name them in reading order SurnameNameDate1.jpg, SurnameNameDate2.jpg, SurnameNameDate3.jpg, SurnameNameDate4.jpg. Not sending anything or sending out of time is equivalent to withdrawing. The e-mail must be sent from your institutional address studio.unibo.it, have as subject SURNAME + Name + "Prova Elettriecnica" + date, and contain exclusively the file or files and your name, surname, matriculation and degree course. The evaluation of the paper will take place with the following criteria: relevance, clarity of presentation, presence of a numerical example, citations of sources.

The results will be published on Almaesami within approximately two weeks. The results will be fixed a week after the publication on the Almaesami website, except for exceptions (those who want to repeat the test must immediately notify the teacher by e-mail). Each result obtained remains valid for one year, unless it is replaced by a subsequent result.
