Learning outcomes
The course provides students with substantial knowledge of actors,
structures and processes that feature the Italian political system,
its historical origins and subsequent evolution. By the end of the course
students will be familiar with the main dynamics and phenomena of
Italian politics (especially those regarding the interactions between political actors, institutions and electorate). Students are also expected to master the principal
scientific tools enabling them to develop their own informed views
about the topical issues of the contemporary political debates in
Italy.
Course contents
The political system and the contemporary approaches to its study.
The party system. The institutional setting: the legisaltive and
executive branches, the President of the Republic.The electoral
system. Political culture and behaviours. The public
administration. Justice and politics.

Teaching methods
Lectures. Depending on the number of students, seminars on specific topics could be held with the active collaboration of participants.
Assessment methods
First written exam (test based on open-ended questions): 40%. Second written exam (computer-based; students will be required to elaborate the proposed subject in 2 hours): 40%. Oral exam on the whole syllabus: 20%.
