Learning outcomes

The seminar aims to provide the fundamental theoretical knowledge of legal anthropology, following the stages of disciplinary evolution, analyzing the fundamental concepts and the main areas of applied research.

By the end of the seminar, students will have acquired the ability to reflect critically and independently on issues concerning contemporary debate.

Course contents

The seminar will be divided into 8 lessons of 2 hours each.

Content of frontal lessons:

- Historical-thematic introduction to legal anthropology;

- the contribution of the classics and the critical reflections of the second half of the twentieth century;

- living law, norms and customs;

- legal pluralism, cultural defence;

- anthropology of human rights in the contemporary world.

The last lesson will be dedicated to the analysis of some significant international conventions for the topics dealt with in the seminar.

Readings/Bibliography

During the seminar, bibliographical references will be provided.

Teaching methods

the seminar consists of face-to-face meetings and will be held in the second semester.

Students are invited to consult the website www.giuri.unibo.it for the timetable and location of the lessons.

Assessment methods

The final exam will be held exclusively in oral form with the aim of verifying the adequate acquisition of knowledge and skills by the student. The assessment of the test will be made taking into account:

- knowledge of different theoretical orientations;

- the ability to make links between the different parts of the programme;

- the ability to develop critical arguments;

- the articulation and accuracy of the exposure;

- accuracy in the use of context-specific terminology.

The final interview will be open to students who have gained 75% of attendance.

Passing the interview corresponds to a qualification.

Teaching tools

To support the teaching activity will be used original documents and slides in Power Point.

Distribution lists will be used for communication and dissemination of events/initiatives on the theme of the seminar. At the beginning of the course students will be given the name of the list and the access password.

Students who, for reasons dependent on disabilities or specific learning disorders (DSAs), need compensatory tools can communicate their needs to the Teacher so that they can be addressed to the contacts and agree on the most appropriate measures to be taken.
