35596 - Semeiotics and Internal Medicine of Companion Animals

Learning outcomes

The activation of a course on Semiotics and Veterinary Internal Medicine of Companion Animals which focuses on pet, responds on the need to provide students, already in the fourth year of study, specific training useful to adequately fellow the course of Clinical and Therapy of Companion Animals of the follow year. In particular, the course of Semiotics and Veterinary Internal Medicine of Companion Animals, aims to provide students with the integration of the semiologic data and the knowledge of the most important diseases of medical interest that may involve several organ systems. At the end of the course the student is able to interpret the symptoms related to the diseases of different organs and learn about the ethiology, pathogenesis and clinical picture of the main diseases of the medical field, most frequently affecting dogs and cat.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of lectures (36 hours) and practical classes (12 x 4 hours). In order to allow an effective participation in tutorials, practical classes will be made by dividing the students into four groups, each of which will be paid the same hours of exercise. The exercises are designed to acquire, on patients of the Animal Hospital, the proper execution of specific objectives of the different organ systems.

 

In relation with the kind of activities and teaching methods adopted, the frequency of this training activity requires all students to carry out Modules 1 and 2 in e-learning mode [https://www.unibo.it/it/servizi -and-opportunities / health-and-assistance / health-and-safety / safety-and-health-in-places-of-study-and-training] and thay are encouraged to participate in Module 3 of specific training on safety and health.

Assessment methods

Oral exmination

The evaluation is scored in  x/30.

The test is passed with a score of at least 18/30. In the event of maximum marks (30/30), 30 cum laude can be attributed.

A very thorough knowledge of the topics addressed in the course, together with high skills of critical analysis, connection and a knowledge of specific terminology will be evaluated with the maximum score (30-30L).

A thorough knowledge of the topics covered in the course, together with good analytical and critical skills and the knowledge of specific terminology will be evaluated with good marks (27-29).

A technically adequate preparation and a sufficient analytical capacity, even if not particularly articulated, expressed in a correct language, will produce fair evaluations (23-26).

Sufficient preparation and capacity for analysis, expressed in a language which is barely formally correct, will determine the sufficiency (18-22).

Teaching tools

Every lesson will associate to several movies about the main diseases studied.

All the lessons will be downloaded on IOL (http://iol.unibo.it/), a program that will also host virtual clinical examination exercises.
