Learning outcomes

By the end of this course students will:

- develop the basic skills in information technologies relating to multimedia languages, especially with reference to the most commonly used applications

- know the history and evolution of multimedia communication

- know the principles of functioning of the main social networks

- be able to design and supervise the realization of a multimedia object

Course contents

This course will deal with the following topics:

• basic notions about digital image, audio, and video

• development of the home entertainment

• new content for the network

• development of 'app'

• the world of videogames

• design and realization of multimedia products

Teaching methods

There will be a theoretical introductory part, and a practical part, using the computer room.

Assessment methods

Part of the final grade will result from the realization of a multimedia project on topics freely chosen by the candidates, which shall contain key elements for the design, such as the definition of goals, targets, contents, navigation structure and technological aspects. This project shall be sent by e-mail, or at the teacher’s office or mailed to via Barberia 4 at least 1 week before the exam date.

The project will constitute 50% of the final grade.
The other 50% will result from a test of 30 multiple-choice questions on the texts of the course (it will take place not in the lab but in classrooms available).

It will be assessed as excellent the performance of those students achieving an organic vision of the course contents, the use of a proper specific language, the familiarity with designing and realizing multimedia instruments.

It will be assessed as discrete the performance of those students showing mostly mechanical or mnemonic knowledge of the subject, not articulated synthesis and analysis capabilities, a correct but not always appropriate language, as well as a scholastic study of the discipline. It will be assessed as barely sufficient the performance of those students showing learning gaps, inappropriate language, lack of knowledge of the technical tools. It will be assessed as insufficient the performance of those students showing learning gaps, inappropriate language, no orientation within the recommended bibliography and inability to design and realize.
