Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will know the concept of stress and stressor applied to fish species in intensive farming conditions. In particular, the measurable parameters that can be used to study the state of well-being / malaise and the strategies that can be used to mitigate the risks associated with intensive breeding as a threat to animal welfare will be identified.

Course contents

Definition of stress and stressor. Interactions between animals and the environment )biotic anc abiotic). Eustress and distress. Physiological role of responses to stress.

How we study stress in aquatic animals: variables and parameters to be considered in order to have indications of the level of objective and subjective stress of the farmed teleosts.

Evaluation of the strategies that can be used in different contexts to mitigate stress in aquatic animals.

Teaching methods

Frontal and streaming lessons. Seminars on specific topics. Group work led by the teacher.

Interview with the student on the entire C.I.
