91834 - Developmental Psychology and Education Workshop (G.B)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Educator in Childhood Social Services (cod. 9083)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, students:

  • will be able to apply the specific techniques that they have learned both independently and in the context of projects organized by institutions;
  • will know how to apply the specific knowledge learned to a variety of types of service;
  • will know how to evaluate the limitations and benefits of the technical tools learned;
  • will know how to transfer the technologies learned to a variety of contexts by making personal modifications and additions to them.

Course contents

The course will describe the main observational techniques in developmental psychology: narrative descriptions, coding system, checklists, rating scales and questionnaires. Furthermore, the course will present some observational tools that can be used by students on the workplace. Both in reference to the description of the general characteristics of the observational method and in relation to the instruments, several exercises and activities will be carried out in order to allow the students to apply the techniques of observation.

Teaching methods

Several exercises will be proposed through the presentation of videos and observational protocols.

The classroom exercises are particularly important to understand the observation techniques through their application, discussing the difficulties and advantages and limitations of each method of observation.

Assessment methods

Assessment method consists of the application of different techniques of observation (for example, the student may be asked to comment an observational protocol, a coding scheme or to draw up a narrative observation while watching a video). The final evaluation will consist in an elegibility.

Teaching tools

Power point presentations and videos will be used
