19088 - Structures and Statics for Architecture

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 9265)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student has the fundamental concepts of structural mechanics. In particular, he/she is able to solve isostatic structures, truss structures and calculate the inertial characteristics of cross-sections. Some applications about arches, vaulted roofs are presented.

Course contents

  1. Vector and matrix analysis
  2. Centroid, moments of inertia
  3. Rigid body: statics and kinematics analysis
  4. Introduction to structural analysis
  5. Trusses, beams and frames

Teaching methods

The course consists of lectures and exercises solved during the lectures. Additional exercises are done with the help of the teaching assistant.

Assessment methods

FOR ERASMUS STUDENTS: Erasmus students that are willing to attend classes of Statics should have at least a B1 level Italian language (it is a recommendation, not a rule).

The exam consists of a written exam followed by an oral exam. The written exam consists in the resolution of exercises.

The oral examination covers ALL the course program (the program should be downloaded from the internet).

The written exams will be planned in June, July, September, January and February.

The oral exam is usually scheduled a week after the written exam.

Those who pass the written exam, can give the oral exam. If a student is not satisfied with the grade obtained in a test can redo the written exam. At the end, the last written vote counts ONLY (not the best written!).

METHODS FOR EXAMINATION

1. The registration to the exams (written and oral) is via the website https://almaesami.unibo.it.

2. All exam dates will be published on the site https://almaesami.unibo.it

3. You MUST register online.

4. In the event that a student is unable to register on-line for an exam (both oral and written), he has to contact by e-mail the teacher (cristina.gentilini@unibo.it) BEFORE the closing date of the list .

5. Once the lists are CLOSED is no longer possible to enroll.

6. The results of the written tests will be published on the website https://almaesami.unibo.it.

7. During the tests, it is absolutely forbidden the use of books, manuals, notes.

8. During the tests, it is absolutely forbidden to use any electronic device (PDAs, mobile phones, etc..), Which must be turned OFF, otherwise the withdrawal of the task.

9. It is reccomended to give the oral examination in the session in which it is given the written exam (for example, if a student passes positively the written part in June, he is suggested to give the oral exam in June or at the most in July).

Teaching tools

The ppt presentations will be available to the students at https://iol.unibo.it/ using the credentials of the University. Students can download handouts, exercises, solutions, and more.
