Learning outcomes

Students in Interpreting knows the fundamental elements (terms, concepts and methods) for the analysis of the structure, functions and of the textual and discourse of the French language. He/she is able to understand, analyze and produce specific oral discours belonging to the genera and different discours types, even in multimedia environments. He/she is able to express themselves spontaneously, fluently and accurately in complex situations.

Course contents

Students in interpreting will become familiar with a number of fundamental skills required in order to analyse structures, functions and the textual and discoursal organization of French, oral and written, and become au fait with the terminology, concepts and methods of linguistic observation and analysis. They will be able to understand to express themselves fluently and correctly in complex communicative events. The course is based on Français Langue Etrangère and Français sur Objectifs Spécifiques didactic methods

In view of the type of activity and teaching methods adopted, attendance of this training activity requires the prior participation of all students in modules 1 and 2 of training on safety in the workplace, in e-learning mode: https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/

French Language work: The course is supported by a Lettorato di lingua francese, a specific 20-hours French language work carried out in the second semester by PhD Marie-Line Zucchiatti https://www.unibo.it/sitoweb/marieline.zucchiatti , Expert Language Collaborator. Program (in French): Le cours de lectorat met particulièrement l’accent sur la pratique de l’oral. Il prévoit différentes activités individuelles ou en groupe visant à perfectionner les aspects liés à la compréhension de textes oraux, à leur transcription et exposition orale. Le travail d’enrichissement lexical passe aussi par divers types d’exercices abordant des thèmes liés à l’actualité culturelle et sociale de la France ou de pays francophones, comme par exemple la poursuite de textes en langue française ou la reformulation orale de textes, du français au français.

Teaching methods

Lectures & practical exercises in the classroom are based on FLE and FOS didactic methods. Various types of discourse, written, oral, multimedia, will be used in the classroom, applying interpretative and descriptive specific categories, aimed at strengthening the cultural and linguistic competence of future interpreters. Assessment in progress should be proposed if necessary.

Assessment methods

Written and oral examination will take place at the end of the course.

The written examination consists in exercices with specific questions to answer. Time allowed: 2 hours. Assessment (passed or failed, grades from 0 to 30) on the basis of the relevance, correctness and completeness of the answers.

The oral examination focuses on presentation on a previously assigned theme in order to assess the level of comprehension, explanation and reformulation in french. Time allowed: around 15 minutes. Assessment (grades from 0 to 30) on the basis of the correctness and completeness of the presentation.

The overall mark (grades from 0 to 30) will be averaged out (to 50%) with the marks obtained in the two parts of the end-of-course exam.

Grade scale

30-30 cum laude. Top marks can only be awarded to students who demonstrate an excellent level of language competences, skills and abilities.

27-29: Good level. Students who demonstrate a solid level of language competences, skills and abilities will obtain a good mark.

24–26: Average level. Students who demonstrate average language competences, skills and abilities will get a good level mark.

21-23: Sufficient level. Students who demonstrate sufficient language competences, skills and abilities will obtain an sufficient mark.

18–20: Minimum level. Students who demonstrate superficial level of language competences, skills and abilities will be given a 'pass' mark.

< 18 Fail mark. Students who demonstrate insufficient or very limited language competences, skills and abilites will fail the exam.

Teaching tools

Video, PC, moodle site. In compliance with the regulations in force, no paper material may be used. The lessons will take place in a classroom equipped to ensure that they are held in hybrid mode.

The material presented in the classroom will be made available to students with a password on the Moodle site.
