Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to give the student a deep knowledge of the many different avenues of research in the field of Medieval archaeology. More specifically, the student will be able to: 1) master the different traditions and the terms of the Italian and international debate concerning the archaeology of the Middle Ages; 2) get deeper into subjects such as: medieval urbanism; the birth of medieval villages and castles; the transformations of material culture and commerce; the relationship between archaeology and ethnicity, related to the medieval period; the archaeology of standing buildings.

Assessment methods

The final exam consists of an oral colloquium, conceived in order to evaluate the accomplishment of the main targets of the course. The final mark is the average of the evaluation of the answers concerning three specific topics which were part of the program.

Teaching tools

The course will be organized in lectures held by the teacher himself. The teacher will sometimes make use of an overhead-projector, computer presentations and photocopies of the texts. All these tools will be available on-line on the web-page of the course, at the end of it.
