Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Rimini
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Fashion Cultures and Practices (cod. 9064)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires critical knowledge and applied skills concerning archives for fashion. In particular, he has the ability to apply cataloging and archiving methods for fashion objects, analysed in their historical, economic and cultural context.

Course contents

Archives increasingly play a fundamental role as a strategic tool both in communication and value building for the fashion system brands and in the processes of analysis, study and narration of cultural phenomena related to it. For this reason, the aim of the course is to examine the different forms of preservation of the heritage of fashion between the public and private sectors.

Starting from the evolution of cultural policies at national and international level and in particular from the archive and historical documentation definitions, the technical and theoretical tools essential for the management and organization of the archival heritage will be investigated.

In particular, during the course various case studies of both Italian and French public and private institutions will be examined with the aim of analyzing the different practices and forms of conservation, use and promotion of the heritage of fashion.

Finally, during the lessons, a practical activity is planned in order to develop a web-based research project, aimed at cataloging and using digital archival fashion sources.
