Learning outcomes

The laboratory aims at helping the students to develop: the ability to comprehend and analyze a scientific essay; basic knowledge on issues of large interest in the fields of social and political sciences and political history as well; comprehension of the methodological and theoretical aspects concerning a specific scientific text; the ability to write short essays on issues concerning the fields of social, political sciences and political history.

Course contents

Students attending the laboratory should read and critically analyse documents and/or scientific essays on the topic concerning the relationship between gender and international politics. In particular the readings assigned will focus on such topics as women transnational movements, a gendered perspective on war and peace, human rights, gender and international migrations, gender and globalization. The laboratory aims at helping students to understand differences in languages, methodology and theoretical approaches concerning how the the international and historiographical conversation on the above issues.

Articles and essays will be uploaded in Virtuale before the beginning of the class.

Teaching methods

Short introduction to the topic chosen for each class.

Critical reading and seminarial work.

Assessment methods

Evaluation on the basis of students' participation, presentations and debates. At the end of the laboratory, students will be required to write a final report on one of the topics discussed in class.

Students are required to attend the laboratory. Class attendance is mandatory.
